A price mismatch in Google Merchant Center means the price Google holds for a product is not the price it found on your product page. Google can disapprove the product for it, so it is worth fixing quickly. This guide covers what Google compares, the usual causes, and how to get the product reapproved.
What Google is comparing
Googlebot crawls your landing pages and compares the price it reads there, and in your structured data markup, with the price in your Merchant Center product data. Google's help page says the prices in the HTML need to match the prices in Merchant Center exactly. It also warns that the issue may lead to an account suspension.
- Product data: The price attribute you send to Merchant Center
- Landing page: The price in the HTML your server returns
- Structured data: The price in the page's markup
The usual causes
Google lists a handful of causes on its help page for this issue. Most of them come down to timing or to the crawler seeing something different from what a shopper sees.
- Update timing: Your site price changed before your product data did
- Structured data: The markup reports a different price than the visible one
- Bot versus shopper: The crawler is served a different price or currency
- Sale dates: A wrong start date, end date or time zone on the sale price
- JavaScript prices: A price loaded after the page renders can trigger the error
- Minimum quantities: Google wants the total price for the minimum quantity you sell
Check whether it is still live
Before you change anything, confirm the issue is current. Google notes that a notification can be stale, because the product may already have been re-crawled and reapproved. In Merchant Center, open Products and look at the Needs attention tab, then check the product's status.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Product data price | Same amount and currency as the page |
| Landing page | The price for the exact variant you submitted |
| Structured data | Passes Google's rich results test with the same price |
Fix it and get re-reviewed
Make the price attribute match your website, in the currency of the country you are targeting. If your page shows several currencies, Google says to match the one displayed most prominently. Google also suggests turning on automatic updates for price and availability mismatches.
- One product: Edit the price on the product in Merchant Center and save
- Many products: Download the affected products, correct them, and upload again
- After fixing: Googlebot re-crawls disapproved products over the following hours or days
- Faster: You can request a review, which Google says may take up to 12 hours
Keep the rest of the listing clean
A price fix only clears this one issue. If the same products also have data quality problems, they can stay limited or disapproved. See how to fix disapproved products for the wider checklist.
