Search Console shows a list of your store's URLs under Page with redirect, and they aren't indexed. In most cases this is expected and needs no action. This guide explains what the status means, why Shopify stores see it, how to find the URLs, when to fix something and how to keep it tidy.
What the status means
Google says Page with redirect is a non-canonical URL that redirects to another page. The redirecting URL won't be indexed. The page it points to may or may not be indexed, depending on how Google judges that target. Google doesn't ask you to take action on the status itself.
- Status: URL redirects somewhere else
- Indexed: Not the redirecting URL
- Target: Judged on its own
- Action: Usually none
Why Shopify stores see it
Redirects are a normal part of running a store. Shopify recommends that extra domains not used for international targeting redirect to your primary domain. When you change a URL, Shopify suggests creating a URL redirect so customers still find the page.
- Extra domains: Redirecting to your primary domain
- Changed handles: Old product URLs redirecting to new ones
- Removed pages: Old URLs pointed at a replacement
- Old links: Other sites linking to old URLs
Find the URLs
Open the Page indexing report in Search Console and click the Page with redirect row. Look at where each URL leads. Then use URL Inspection on the target URL to check that it's indexed.
- Report: Page indexing
- Row: Page with redirect
- Check: The target URL in URL Inspection
When to fix something
The status itself is fine. Act only when the redirect goes to the wrong place, or when one of your main pages shows up here by mistake. In Shopify, you manage redirects from the URL redirects list under Content, then Menus.
- Wrong target: Edit the redirect to point to the right page
- Main page listed: Make sure the live URL has no redirect on it
- Redirect not working: Shopify says a redirect won't work if the old URL still loads a valid page
- Fixed paths: Shopify says you can't redirect fixed paths such as /products or /collections
- Target not indexed: Improve that page, then inspect it again
Keep it tidy
Change product handles only when you need to. Shopify's product guide warns not to edit the URL handle too often or the product might not display in search results. Link to your current URLs, not old ones.
- ✅ Add a redirect whenever you change a URL
- ✅ Update menus and internal links to the new URL
- ✅ Check redirect targets after a cleanup
- ❌ Renaming handles every few weeks
Doing this at scale
ConvertLens improves product page content and does not change indexing, redirects or site speed settings. It scores every product page 0 to 100 against a conversion rulebook and drafts before/after rewrites of weak sections from the page's own copy, which you approve one by one. That helps the pages your redirects point to, not the redirects themselves. See ConvertLens.
