Fix Unsupported Shopping Content in Merchant Center

By Chad Norris, Founder, Orbitloft · Updated October 11, 2026

A product disapproved for "Unsupported Shopping content" is not broken. Google has decided it is a type of product it does not list on Shopping, because it does not offer a good experience for it. This guide covers what the policy includes, which Shopify products tend to trigger it, and how to fix or appeal.

What the policy means

Google's policy says it does not allow certain content where it cannot offer an optimal user experience. The limits apply to Shopping only, not to other Google products. Non-compliant products are disapproved and do not show.

Content Google does not support

These are the categories on Google's policy page most likely to matter to an online store.

CategoryWhat Google says
ServicesNot allowed, including services bundled with goods
Open-loop gift cardsCard-network-branded prepaid cards are not allowed. Gift cards redeemable only at specified companies are allowed
eBooks and digital booksNot allowed in Shopping ads. Google says this does not apply to free listings
Recurring billingNot allowed, with exceptions such as magazine subscriptions and certain physical goods subscriptions
Event and travel ticketsNot allowed
Software-processed billingGoods paid for through software you must install are not allowed

The list also covers vehicles, financial products, currency and real estate.

Find the affected products

In Merchant Center, open Products, go to the Needs attention tab and filter by the issue. On Shopify, likely candidates are gift card products, service or installation add-ons listed as products, digital downloads and subscription items.

Fix it

Google's steps are to update your website if needed, remove violating offers from your product data and update the data in Merchant Center. Removed products need no review request. Edited products are re-reviewed automatically.

Appeal if it is wrong

If a physical product was flagged by mistake, appeal. On the product details page, select Review and fix, then I disagree with the issue, or the option for all products. Google warns that before a bulk appeal you should remove any products that do violate the policy, because a failed appeal can limit future appeals.

For account-level warnings, see what to do when your account is suspended.

Doing this at scale

FeedFix checks every product against Google Merchant Center and Meta Catalog rules and scores each one from 0 to 100 per channel, so you can see which products have data problems. It drafts compliant title and description rewrites you review as before/after diffs, apply in bulk, and every change is audit-logged. See FeedFix.
