When you connect Instagram to the Facebook and Instagram channel in Shopify, you might see "This account can't be selected because it doesn't have an established presence on Instagram," or a message that the account is "linked to a shop that's still in review or doesn't comply with our seller policies." Either way, Meta hasn't approved the account for shopping yet. This guide covers what Meta checks, how to find the problem and what to fix before you try again.
What the message means
Meta, not Shopify, approves accounts for shopping. Shopify's help center says you can only get approval from Meta to use the channel. Meta's commerce eligibility requirements apply to your Facebook Page and your Instagram professional account, and Meta says failing them at any time can cost you access to commerce features.
- Established presence: Meta wants an authentic, established account, which may include a sufficient follower base
- Still in review: Meta's setup guide says a commerce account review can take up to 4 weeks
Common causes
Most rejections trace back to one of Meta's five eligibility requirements or to how the accounts are connected.
- Account type: Shopify requires a professional or creator Instagram account linked to your business's Facebook Page
- Domain: Products must be available for direct purchase from your verified domain
- Location: Your business must be in a country Meta supports for shops
- Policies: Your Page and Instagram account must follow Meta's terms and Community Standards
- Accurate information: No misleading pricing or availability, and a refund and return policy that is easy to find
- New account: Too little activity to count as an established presence
Find the reason
Start with the email Meta sends. Meta says it will email you if there are actions you can take based on the results of its review, and it updates review status in Commerce Manager. In Shopify, the channel's setup page shows the error text itself, which tells you which requirement failed.
- Commerce Manager: Check the review status of your commerce account
- Shopify admin: Note the exact error in the Facebook and Instagram channel
- Permissions: Shopify says your personal Facebook account needs full control of the business portfolio and the Page
Fix it step by step
Work through the requirement that failed, then reconnect.
- Step 1: Switch Instagram to a professional account and link it to your business's Facebook Page
- Step 2: Make sure your store isn't in private mode and every product can be bought on your domain
- Step 3: Put your return and refund policy where shoppers can find it
- Step 4: For an established presence error, Shopify's advice is to try again once the account has more activity, or select a different account
- Step 5: For an in review message, Shopify says to review and resolve account quality issues, then try again
Keep the account eligible
Approval isn't permanent. Meta can remove commerce access if you stop meeting the requirements later.
- ✅ Keep prices and stock on Instagram in line with your store
- ✅ Keep your Commerce Manager name matching your public business name
- ❌ Don't connect a brand new, inactive account and expect approval

Doing this at scale
Once your account is approved, your product data has to pass Meta's catalog rules too. FeedFix checks every product against Meta Catalog and Google Merchant Center rules, scores each one 0 to 100 per channel, and drafts compliant title and description rewrites you review as before and after diffs and apply in bulk.
